PREZ SAYS

The Frontier Squares club owes Dick and Mary Ruth, and the whole 06 Board a great big round of applause for a year well done.  The FS club has flourished under their leadership in many ways, including improving our treasury, lots of great callers and dancers, and a plethora of goodies at the snack table.  Two items of special note are the class of new dancers and the large number of visitors each week, both of which are essential for an energetic and thriving club.

This year’s class is exciting with Bob Baier as the instructor.  The students are doing very well. The class will host a half-way dance on January 13th.  After that the class will dance at least one tip with the club so that they can get to know us and we can get to know them.  Integrating the class into the club is the best way to encourage them to join the club as members.  Without a source of new members such as the class each year, the club would eventually wither and shrink.

The Club is very fortunate to have had so many visitors each week as their entry fee is a significant source of club income.  Without our visitors, we would have the unpleasant task of shrinking our budget.  So if visitors are so important, how do we keep them coming?  The answer is three easy things.   First, we all need to make them feel welcome with a smile, a hello, and a “how are ya”.  Second, we need to make sure that visitors only sit out when they want to.  If the government can have “No child left behind”, then we can have “No visitor sits out”.  And third, if visitors are so important to us, then our visitations to other clubs are equally important to them.  Our visitations this past year have been very successful and we need to keep up this enviable record.  There have been a small group of FS members that seem to always be leading these visitations and we will talk about that next month.

As your President for 2007, we look forward to working with the experience, energy, and talent on the 2007 board.  Together, our goal is to maintain the momentum of last year so that all of us can thoroughly enjoy and participate in the dance activity that we all love.

A message from the Past President

We have enjoyed being president this year and it has gone by very quickly.  We would like to thank the members who have helped to make this year such an enjoyable time.  We especially want to thank Jim Lambert and Mary Rich, our incoming Presidents, who have not only given of their time and abilities but have contributed so much any time they saw a need.

We started this year thinking that we would have a substantial deficit in our budget but we ended the year with a financial gain.  The Board has worked hard to keep Frontier Squares on a sound financial footing.

Our class is doing well and we hope you will support them as they start to become part of our square dance club.  The half-way dance is coming and I know the class would enjoy having all of our members there to share in that achievement.

We started the year with many of our banners given out to surrounding clubs.  With the help of many of our members who did a lot of visitations, we have retrieved all of our banners and have stolen many from other clubs. We hope that we will be able to continue doing lots of visitations in the coming year.  This will help bring visitors from other clubs and help our financial situation.

Thanks again for all your support.

Dick and Mary-Ruth Rathjen
